On Wednesday, May 4, Eminem’s ex-wife, Kim Mathers, disclosed during a call to the Detroit radio show “Mojo in the Morning,” that her reckless driving accident which occured in October 2015 was actually an attempt to take her own life.
According to the Detroit News, her car, a black Escalade flipped after she ran into a ditch and hit a pole in Macomb County, Michigan, and police reports revealed that she admitted to first responders that she had drank a fifth of Malibu rum before getting behind the wheel. The court records weren't made public, hence, many to wonder if she was receiving preferential treatment for her fame, so the 41-year-old mother of four, called into the radio station to clear up the rumors surrounding her DUI.
"I sat at the end of a road where I knew that no one else but myself would get hurt. Yes, I drank, I took pills, and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole,” she said. "I apologized immensely. I did not expect to even make it through that. I told [first responders] that I tried to do this on purpose, and I’m so sorry. I never lied to them. I told them everything that I did.”
interogated by the hosts, she explained that she was trying to commit suicide. “That’s why those records were sealed. There was medical information in there. It had nothing to do with the rest of the case … After I realized how much drama it was causing, I willingly unsealed the files so that everybody can know my personal business, yet again,” she said.
She also confessed that she’s getting help now. Although she “was starting to do better,”the January 2016 death of her twin sister, Dawn Scott, was quite traumatic. Now, she says that her kids and Marshall Bruce Mathers III aka Eminem have been helping her to Get through the challenging time.
“He’s been real supportive,” she said of Marshall. “We’re really close friends. We’re just trying to raise our kids together and make it as normal for them as possible.”
the former high school sweethearts share a 20-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade and Kim’s daughter from another relationship, Whitney Scott Mathers, 14. They also adopted Dawn’s daughter, Alaina Marie Mathers, now 23. The unsteady couple tied the knot in 1999, but went their separate ways in 2001. They made a brief come-back in 2006 but separated again later that year.
